As the series continues she is more and more confident and eventually becomes real contender to the throne. Well, who wouldn’t be with the little help of dragons, right? This wonderful series of fantasy and mediaeval stories is shot in a sound studio in Belfast and the outdoor scenes are set in a variety of exotic locations such as Morocco and Iceland in order to bring the show to life.

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen is also called Daenerys Stormborn and Dany who is the last member, along with her vicious and cruel brother Viserys, of the Targaryen Dynasty. Dany marries into the tribe of Dothraki, for which Emilia had to learn their language, when her character married Khal Drogo, warlord. This marriage allows her the independence denied by her brother. She has emerged as a strong, confident ruler.

In the books Dany is in her early teens, quite small and exquisitely beautiful. She has silver blond long hair and amazing purple coloured eyes that are famous in the Targaryen tribe. In her early years she was a timid, frightened girl with no self esteem of self confidence who had only known life as an exile. Daenerys main goal is the return the crown of the Seven Kingdoms to her family.

On Game of Thrones

Emilia relishes playing this determined young woman, Daenerys Targaryen in game of Thrones. She immediately had feelings of sympathy for this insecure and male dominated young woman who was subject to cruel abuse at the hands of her brother. Her character only has her strength and strong will to get her through life that is often painful but she shows great courage in getting on with her life.

This role, Emilia says, has given her an opportunity to play a role in which a young woman goes on to be more than just a wife or a girlfriend. But there are other roles that a young girl can aspire to be instead of being ruled by dominant males.
